Blog Post #6 - Silent Questions
Empathy is feeling how someone else feels, them having been through either something horrible or horrific. If you can feel this then you can really understand how others might feel in a hard time in their life. If no one had empathy for anyone else then we would all only care for ourselves and we would never care about how others are feeling-we could not even help them in a time of need.
Justice- acting fair or equal to everyone around, treating them how they should be treated. Treating people the right way, and not letting them down.
Racism is hatred or intolerance of another race or races.
Sexism is discrimination or devaluation based on ones sex.
Ageism is discrimination against people of a certain age group.
Classism is the viewing of society as being composed of distinct classes. Racism is a big part of human destructiveness. It is the one thing keeping a big group of people down. If we cant work together and not judge each other because of race and the other “isms” then we can not succeed. Its only hurting others and making our lives worse. Sexism keeps the oppisite sex down. If a man cant trust a woman with his job or let alone her responsibilities then she has to work twice as hard at least to just get by, if she can even find work to do. If we discriminate because of age or social class then we are only holding our selves back, and making other peoples lives horrible.
Blog #5 - DAD
Its almost the anniversary of my fathers move. Its been five years, but I remember like it was yesterday. That dreadfull day April 15th, tomarrow. My dad is leaving for Colorado. He will be 1,300 miles away and I don’t know if I’m going to be able and visit. How can he just leave us, me and him are so close, how can he just pick up and move? He can’t go, he has to be here for me and my sisters. He can’t go with that horriblt woman, I don’t even like her. She has 4 kids of her own to take care of. I’m going to be 11 in five days, I’m the youngest and no one even seems to care about how bad I’m feeling. Why does he have to leave now?
Red, puffy faces fill my house. Tears of sadness are being shed throughout my whole family. My dad, the strongest man I know is even crying. If everyone is so sad, then why are they even leaving? It doesn’t have to be like this, he could stay. He can be here, and I can live with him forever. My eyes feel dry from crying so much, but they still seem to let out a steady stream of salty tear water. I can’t believe the day is here already. Me and my dad have been snuggling, but I still don’t want to let him go.
We spend the night together, but this morning still, I don’t want him to go. He is leaving in a few hours but i just can’t part with him. “It’s okay sis,” he always tells me, “We’ll see each other soon, we will talkd everyday and write letters to.” My dad so sweet and kind, I can’t let go. Not now, not yet. I need him here with me.
Now they’re leaving, on the way to the airport. I beg to go with, but my mom refuses. “I’m going to miss you sis, but I love you with all my heart,” my dad says to me as the car pulls away. I hold on tight to my mom as they leave my house. I miss him already.
I didn’t understand why my dad had to leave when he did. But no as I am older I at least have a better concept of the reason. Although, I wish still that I could be with him. I know now it was the best decision for my dad. I wish, maybe, I could have been included.
Blog Post #4 - Text Messaging
Text messaging is the newest and I think one of the best ways of communication. It is fast and easy, and when you can’t really talk on the phone it is the best choice. On average I would say I send maybe 1 to 2 hundered text messages a day. I usually text all of my friends unless they don’t have a cell phone. I would sometimes rather text someone than talking to them on the phone. I don’t think text messaging changes anything about the way I write or my ability. I sometimes may use a shortcut to some words ( i.e. u for you or wat for what). But when I am writing for school I make sure and change it. I think in school teachers should allow text messaging as long as it doesn’t distract the student I don’t think it is such a big deal. Cell phones are the new thing to use. Text messaging is just a part of that. Maybe we shouldn’t be talking all the time with the “text language” but most people I text don’t even use such words like that other than the occasional idk or omg. I usually only use shortcut words. I believe text messaging improves communication when it is hard to communicate with others, but it does change face to face communication a little bit because it is easier to just send a text then go meet up with someone.
Blog Post # 3 - Independent Reading - New Understandings
“Some debts of the human soul are so enormous, only life itself is sufficient forfit.” My new understanding through independent reading is that some things that happen are so horrible that someone may not ever be satisfied with the concequence of the offender that only the death of that person will even start to fix that hole. - from D is for Deadbeat by Sue Grafton page 240.
Blog Post # 2 - Blogs? What’s a Blog?
A blog is where you can write on the internet about whatever you feel like saying. I have heard of blogs through myspace. I am very comfortable with computers. I usually go on the internet when im on the computer, check my e-mail or play games, do schoolwork mostly. I like to write, I think it is a good way to say what you feel and to express yourself. Most kids don’t really think before they put certain stuff on the internet, they don’t think anyone on the computer is untrustworthy. I believe the internet can be dangerous. If you don’t think before you put personal stuff on the internet or share personal things with others. Most of the things people say they do on the internet is play games or check their e-mail. A lot of people say myspace is a big part of what they do on the internet. At first I felt like this would be boring and I was a little self-concious about having to put our writing for anyone else to see. But now I think this is a good way to share our views with others.
Blog Post #1 - Independent Reading - Book Selection
D is for Deadbeat - by Sue Grafton
This book is the fourth in the Kinsey Milhone PI books. I read the first book A is for Alibi as a freshman as a recomendation from my Lit 9 teacher. The first book hooked me with the descriptive writing and interesting story lines. I continued reading the books in the series and im now on the fourth. In this series there are PI books for the letters A through T. All of the books are about Kinsey Milhone. Sue Grafton writes in a very interesting way, to catch your attention and keep it. I definetly reccomend this series to anyone.
